Here are some ideas about how to make your views known about local library funding:

Go to the Albemarle County website on February 26 and find out what funding County Executive Bob Tucker will be recommending for libraries in the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library system.

Attend and testify on behalf of library funding at the March 3 and March 31 Albemarle Supervisors’ public hearings on the budget.

Attend the JMRL Board of Trustees monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 22 at 1:15 p.m. AT THE CROZET LIBRARY and provide public comment (limited to 5 speakers, no more than 5 minutes each).

Contact your Albemarle County Supervisor about the importance of your library to you. If you’re a voter, let your Supervisor know how library funding affects your voting.

Contact JMRL Director John Halliday (979-7151, Ext. 206) for accurate, up-to-date answers to questions about how the regional library system is funded and how Albemarle County's share is calculated.

Thanks.

Nancy I agree a new library building and new technology etc. would be wonderful! A great and new library really benefits the whole community
Expansive new building and tech. is costly but I have seen the benefits of a new library in many communities...
"The County should take advantage of currently depressed construction costs by either borrowing money" I hope it works out way sooner than later
Especially with the growing community I think that little library by the train tracks is getting less sufficient and should be turned into something diffrent (def. not a Pizza Shop but maybe some little cafe/ restaurant)

Great post. The idea of waiting 6 more years for the new library is...well, a darned shame. I hope that this discussion will continue & that the BOS will reconsider. Gotta say, though - the presence of the Library in Crozet was a major factor in our decision to look for a house here 5 years ago. I am one person who did move to Crozet because of the Library.

I heart the Crozet Library & staff! I knew already that they were exceptional, the numbers in your post are further proof of that. My daughter and I are regulars at the programs there, they do so much for the community - and they make the most of the space that they have. Would love to see what they could do with the new building.
