Crozet Community Chorus presents its Second Summer Vocal Workshop

August 9, 7:00- 9:00 pm “Mastering Vocal Techniques” with Dr. John McCarty
In this workshop, participants will focus on vocal techniques to enhance interest and style to their music, by adding melodic, harmonic and rhythmic originality to compositions. Some different rhythm styles (jazz, gospel, etc.) will be explored.
Dr. John McCarty is the Music Director of the Crozet Community Chorus. As an assistant professor of music and the director of choral music at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA, he conducts the Bridgewater College Chorale, Concert Choir and Oratorio Choir; teaches courses in music history, music education and ethnomusicology; and advises the Gospel Choir and A Cappella Choir. He received his doctorate in choral conducting, pedagogy and literature from James Madison University, where he conducted the JMU Men’s Chorus and the chamber choir of the Valley Collegium Musicum. His master’s degree in choral conducting is from the University of Minnesota, where he served as the assistant conductor for the University Women’s Chorus and the 200-voice Gospel Choir. As a choral singer, he performed with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Chorale in St. Paul, MN and VocalEssence in Minneapolis, MN.
