Register for Kindergarten in Crozet

I know, it’s really early to be thinking about this, but apparently it’s good to get registered for kindergarten now:

A note from Mrs. Marcus:

If you know of any family with a rising Kindergarten student, please make sure they have registered for next year. Teachers are hired based on the number of registered students and as of now, there are only 35 rising Kindergartners at Crozet Elementary!

Parents can call the School Office at 434-823-4800 or Albemarle County at 434-296-5877 for more information. Families whose first language is other than English should contact the International & ESOL Office at 434-296-6517.

Restore N Station Hearings in June

From a comment:

Two important public hearings for the proposed ReStore ‘N Station are coming up and it is critical that people attend these meetings if they are concerned about the size and character of a huge gas station/truck stop proposed for Route 250 West. If approved, this would be the second largest gas station in the County, serving both cars and semi trucks Interstate 64.

Please take some time out of your schedule to attend these meetings. It is crucial that the County know that citizens are paying attention to their decisions regarding this project. Here are two hearings where your attendance is needed to:

·        Show your support for the adjoining neighborhood’s attempt to scale back the size and use of the project;

·        Note your concern about a large project like this proposed to be built near three schools on Scenic Route 250.

1) Tuesday, June 1 at 2 p.m. for a Board of Zonings Appeals (BZA) Hearing and

2) Tuesday, June 8 at 6 p.m. for a Planning Commission Public Hearing

Don’t feel like you need to speak at these meetings, just showing up is important! this could be your neighborhood and you would certainly want other Albemarle County citizens to stand up for you. You also might have children going to one of the nearby three schools and are interested in showing support for scaling back the size of the project.

At the very least, couldn’t they come up with a better name than “Restore N Station”?

The Fence in The Square is Pushed Back

And we get a few more parking spots. I’ll count this as progress.

More at The Hook and the Newsplex.

The move is part of a 30-day temporary agreement between the railroad company and the business owners, which everyone hopes will give both parties more time to devise a solution to the parking problems in the square.

Note from the Crozet Trails Crew

From Jessica Mauzy: (bolding mine)

I have a big favor to ask all of you. If you like to hike, walk, mountain bike, ride horses, birdwatch, flower watch, trail run, or hide from people in the woods, please come out and help the Crozet Trails Crew (fancy new name!!) plan and/or build trails. We need your help. We have a wonderful group of folks who are dedicated to the project, but that group is small and we need to increase our numbers. There are several different ways to be involved, depending on your availability, physical condition, and interests.

The next trail workday with be this Saturday, May 22nd, at 8am. We will meet at Beaver Creek reservoir at 8am. If we have enough folks come out for this build, we can have the Henley Hornets loop trail completed soon.

So … Crozet’s Square Has been Fenced Off

Mostly.

A fence? So soon?

Update: The Crozet Gazette and the Daily Progress provide well-researched stories this morning.

If anyone would be willing to share a copy of the proposed contract, please email me.

Can’t we all get along?

Now what?

To Crozetians: let’s be nice, respectful and considerate of each other as we fight & jockey for the few spaces. I saw an elderly woman trying to get to Parkway Pharmacy today and she had to park much further from the pharmacy than she wanted. Me? I’ll ride my bike whenever possible.
