Usually when we think about redistricting in Crozet and Albemarle County we’re thinking about redistricting for schools. Not this time. Via press release:
REDISTRICTING OF MAGISTERIAL DISTRICTS AND VOTER PRECINCTS
The County of Albemarle will hold a public meeting on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 241 of the County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, at which County staff will present information and receive public comments regarding the upcoming redistricting process for the County’s magisterial districts and voter precincts. The Virginia Constitution requires that local governing body districts be redrawn in 2011 based on the results of the 2010 Census. The County’s six magisterial districts from which the members of the Board of Supervisors and the School Board are elected are the “local governing body districts” referenced in the Constitution and must be addressed in the redistricting.The topics to be discussed at this meeting will include:
– The schedule for the redistricting process;
– Federal and State requirements for establishing magisterial district and voter precinct boundaries; and
– Proposed Board of Supervisors’ guidelines to be used in drawing magisterial district and voter precinct boundaries.This meeting will be conducted by County staff and will be an opportunity for public input on redistricting issues for Albemarle County. This meeting will not be a meeting of the Board of Supervisors and no decisions will be made at this meeting.
Comments received at the meeting will be recorded and considered by County staff in preparing final guidelines for the Board of Supervisors to consider and in developing one or more redistricting plans to be presented to the Board after the County has received and evaluated data from the 2010 Census. The Board of Supervisors will hold work sessions and at least one advertised public hearing on the proposed redistricting plan(s) at a later date. The new magisterial districts and voter precincts will be established by ordinance.
When was the last time somebody from the town of Crozet was on the Alb. Board of Sup.?? 30 yes ago?
Well, Crozet is not a town but, we had Joe Henley, Walter Perkins, and the one,nsorry I can not remember his name, who lost to our current whatever. Thesenpeople can be considered from the Crozet community area. These people also represent not just Crozet but, the entire district that they are elected from.
No need for a debate about this, there shouldn’t even be a need for consensus, there should only be agreement: we need nonpartisan redistricting.
