I wanted to bring to your attention a community screening of Race to Nowhere at Crozet Baptist Church. This movie is neither political nor religious, but rather a focus on the welfare of our children. I am attempting to reach out to our community, in hopes of engaging our school administrators, teachers and parents in the discussion of what is, and is not, working for our youth today. Please consider listing this in your wonderful Blog RealCrozet. We will be showing this documentary on Friday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m.
Here is a brief description of the film:
A concerned mother turned filmmaker aims her camera at the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded our schools and our children’s lives, creating unhealthy, disengaged, unprepared and stressed-out youth. Featuring the heartbreaking stories of young people in all types of communities who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids, Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools: cheating has become commonplace; students are disengaged; stress-related illness and depression are rampant; and many young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.

We will be there! I am sure this is a movie we ALL need to see. Our children are stressed to the max…parents, the schools, the government and the students themselves need to re-think the lives we are all leading.
I for one have taught my children, through my behavior, to over-commit themselves and live lives with never a moments rest. It is a vicious cycle we are all living, so we can be on top, be the best, just to loose our health and sanity. Something is wrong with this picture!!!
I am looking forward to this documentary. I was on the phone with a guidance counselor from Henley last who admitted that the pressures on students was unbelievable. So many trying to take HS classes at Henley so they can take college classes at Western…what will they do when they get to College. Things are just so different today and not so sure why they need to be. I am looking forward to the dialog for sure!!
