What Do you Think about RealCrozetVA’s new Design?

Update 31 December 2013:

I’ve reverted to the old theme. While I really liked the new, modern, clean one, there was a loss of functionality, namely on the Crozet Calendar and other pages that I no longer have the time or knowledge to fix. While I’d love to update the theme to a 2014 style, what’s here works. Darn it.

It’s been a long time since I updated the design of RealCrozetVA and the new WordPress default theme tempted me.

I’m still finding and tweaking pages, layouts, and other such things, but so far I think it’s looking a bit better and it’s definitely better looking on mobile devices.

Thoughts?

If you’re curious, this is what the site looked like two days ago.

RealCrozetVA — A community blog for Crozet, Virginia-1.jpg

Apparently, I haven’t updated the “About this Blog” page in some time either. Looks like I’ll be doing that this weekend as I think “potentially new grocery stores” was achieved almost five years ago. 🙂

Crozet is a unique place to live and there is much to talk about, much of it centered around the growth that we are experiencing. New restaurants, new developments, potentially new grocery stores … new neighbors … My vision for this blog sees this as a place to discuss Crozet’s goings-on, music and cultural events, local vineyards, politics, etc. Please be patient, and if anybody wants to help author or manage this, please let me know.

You may start here to learn a little bit about some of what has been happening in Crozet. I live and work in Crozet and want to facilitate community communication and help Crozet become an even better place to live.?
Ideally, Real Crozet VA will serve as a meeting/discussion point for growth issues, babysitter needs, car-pooling … whatever is needed. Ideas are welcomed; just contact Jim Duncan.

  1. There is a golden rule of webpage design, content and how easy it is for someone to find
it. Accessibility is also up there as well and more often than not your site is not available 24 hours a day. Right now RealCrozetVa points to a page for Southern Cafe and Music Hall. Other nights it is various other pages. There are back door ways to get to this site though. Ain’t free hosting great??? It’s all about what you hope to achieve by reshuffling your words.
It is fine either way.Your above comment from 5 years ago was interesting because Crozet
will soon no longer be unique. The community in a box plan along with the constant influx
of people wanting what they left will doom the place into oblivion…

      1. Simple to test. Type in realcrozetva.com and see where it takes you some
late nights after 00:00. This address did point to the page I mentioned when
I mentioned it. In times like these with the multiple jobs a lot of people work
the only free time to browse the net is late at night. If I were a Realtor I would
want to be visible then. I do not have any problems finding things on your site.
I can not speak for others though…I would not worry about back doors on a
content only site. I would give more thought on why the shift from a right
margin focused site to a left one. But, hey, it’s your world…Have fun with it!

  2. The new design looks quite nice on a mobile device. Much easier to see the stories and jump to the bottom to see any recent comments.

    Thanks again!
