Red and the Romantics’ music has been described as Americana & roots, though the sound is diverse. Crossing over several genres, the songs are original and written by Erik “Red” Knierim. With the blues master Steve Riggs on upright bass, the colorful guitar playing of Steve Vargo, the gypsy, gospel-inspired melodies of Betty Jo Dominick’s accordion and the musical drumbeat of Dan Barrale. There is a dancing feel, then there is a poetic side, and always a joyful groove. A Charlottesville-based band since 2011, Red & the Romantics is a good vibration that appeals to the young and old.
