Renée Gokey and Christine Price-Abelow, “The Three Sisters: Indigenous Origins and Best Growing Practices.” — 10 March 2022

Gokey and Price-Abelow are with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian and will explore the history of “The Three Sisters” (beans, corn and squash), how best to grow them, and how to learn from indigenous gardening practices. A citizen of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, Gokey is Teacher Services Coordinator for the museum. Price-Abelow is Smithsonian Gardens Lead Horticulturist for the museum and is responsible for a landscape that includes a traditional croplands area and a collection of ethno-botanical plants native to the region. Admission is $10, and registration to receive the Zoom link begins in mid-February at https://piedmontmastergardeners.org/events/.
