Second Saturday Crozet at Crozet Artisan Depot
February 8 @ 13:00 - 15:00Free
Crozet Artisan Depot is thrilled to present a show and sale of creative woodturnings by Mike Sorge of Ethos Woodturning (Middlebrook VA) from February 1-29, 2020. A Meet the Artist reception will be held as part of Second Saturday Crozet on February 8 from 1-3pm in the historic Crozet train depot, 5791 Three Notch’d Road.
“Creative woodturning is an amazing medium and enjoyable art. Trees are magnificent, often living beyond several human lifetimes. When a tree dies its inherent natural beauty can be an ongoing voice. Humanity, nature and the cosmos inspire my work, sculpting elegant undulating winged forms with an element of Ethos.” –Mike Sorge
Growing up in the San Gabriel Mountains of California, Mike developed a love of nature along with an appreciation of trees, their inherent beauty inspiring him to pursue the art of sculptural woodturning. He has taught classes and demonstrated his craft all over the US and has won numerous awards at competitions and fine art shows.
For his show at The Depot, Mike will bring fantastic sculptural “winged” woodturnings such as Manta Ray Lidded Boxes, Spirit Birds with a captured art glass sphere, Textured Cairn Structures, Winged Pagoda Boxes, as well as contemporary bowls.
Crozet Artisan Depot is a hub for the artist community of central Virginia, representing more than 80 regional artisans. For more information: www.crozetartisandepot.com or www.facebook.com/crozetartisandepot.
