Professional actor and musician Koda Kerl will present an acting workshop featuring 

theatre games, improv, stage combat, and more. You never know when a star will 

be born. Grades 6­-12. Required registration begins June 18.

Stop-Motion Movie Workshop

Learn the basics of stop motion animation using just a smartphone or tablet, presented by instructor Ian Levesque. Participants will complete a short video production and upload it to a private channel by the end of the workshop. Bring your own device or borrow one of the library’s. Grades 6-12. Required registration begins June 11.

 

LGBTQ+ and Ally Party & Book Club

Join us for a group art project, a remembrance in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a discussion of the book It’s Not Like It’s a Secret, and a Skype chat with the author, Misa Sugiura. All are welcome, regardless of identity, and you don’t have to have read the book. 10 free copies of the book are available for the first 10 people who sign up. Grades 7–12. Intro to T’ai Chi

Move mindfully with this class that will demonstrate basic movements and introduce you to this ancient practice that focuses on balance, body awareness, and controlled motion. No prior experience necessary.  Class by Lee Felton of Blue Ridge T’ai Chi. Ages 18+. Required registration begins July 26. 

Become a Community Responder: CERT Level 1 Training

Learn to prepare for disasters that could impact your community. In an emergency, CERT members assist others when professional responders are not immediately available, and take a more active role in emergency preparedness projects. This class will cover personal preparedness, hazards, and an introduction into fire safety and medical operations. Taught by the Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Office of Emergency Management. Ages 16+. Requested registration begins July 24.

Can’t find the time to read the latest self-help book? Learn the basics about new and popular titles and share what has or hasn’t worked for you. Ages 18+. Requested registration begins July 22, but drop ins are welcome!

Trees and Wildlife

Are trees important for wildlife?  Yes, very. This talk by Kathy Nepote of the Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards will increase your awareness of the importance of trees (both living and dead), the complex nature of plant and wildlife interactions, and also point out visible signs of wildlife in our environment.  No advance registration is required for this free event.
