Crozet Artisan Depot is thrilled to present a show and sale of Felted Wearable Art by guest artist Karen Shapcott of Middle River Creations from September 1-30, 2019. Come meet Karen at the opening reception on September 14th from 2-4pm in the historic Crozet train depot!

Karen’s unique collection includes colorful scarves, stylish ponchos, and fanciful hats. She creates these handmade pieces using a technique called “wet felting”. Each item is made using the finest wools, silks, and decorative embellishments.

Karen Shapcott’s artwork has evolved through 25 years of felting experience and years of study. Her studio is located in Staunton, VA along the Middle River where she both creates her artwork and teaches classes.

“The Art of Whimsy”: Mixed-Media Jewelry by Stephen Dalton
Crozet Artisan Depot is thrilled to present a show and sale of jewelry by guest artist Stephen Dalton of Half-baked Ideas from July 1-31, 2019. Stephen will be at the Meet the Artist Reception on the Second Saturday July 13th from 1-3pm in the historic Crozet train depot.

Stephen Dalton has been making watercolor paper and epoxy jewelry for more than 25 years. Animals and nature—with a twist—have always been important subjects in his work. His work includes whimsical pin-pendants, necklaces, earrings, as well as abstract sculptural pieces. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, lightweight, durable, and always created with the aim of bringing a little joy and lightness into all our lives!

Art on the Trax will feature “Where We Belong” by Judith Ely during the month of June, with a Second Saturday Artist Reception on Saturday, June 9th from 4-6pm.

Judith Ely, Charlottesville area artist presents abstracted landscapes in acrylics. Her intention is to leave much open for the viewer to decide. Enjoy the outdoor scenes and the whimsy that goes along with them.

Second Saturdays Art Opening @ Art on The Trax with Nancy Spahr

Art on the Trax will feature “Nesting In II” Mixed Media by Nancy Spahr during the month of May, with a Second Saturday Artist Reception on Saturday, May 12th from 4-6pm.

From the artist: These bird nest paintings celebrate the cycle of avian parenthood, which is condensed into a much shorter time frame than humans – four to seven weeks from constructing the nest, to embryo, to fledgling. Ready for flight!  My nest works use tar along with oil paints, plus added textures of natural and found materials, often from old bird nests.

Art on the Trax will feature “the delight is in the surprise” by Christen Yates during the month of April, with a Second Saturday Artist Reception on Saturday, April 14th from 4-6pm.

Christen’s paintings explore our relationships with the surrounding landscape using loose and suggestive strokes that imply an immediacy of encounter within which she wants the viewer to linger. Her current show records her attention to and experience of lands and animals in and around White Hall. Christen lives and works by the mountains on Sugar Hollow Road with her husband, four kids and flock of hens.

Crozet: A Mighty Little Town by Oana Moore

During the month of April, Crozet Artisan Depot proudly presents new work by local photographer Oana Moore. Oana will be at the Second Saturday Opening Reception on April 14th from 3-5pm in the historic Crozet train depot.

In this month-long show and sale, Oana presents a collection of recent photographs of the Crozet and Western Albemarle area.

“I love photographing the Crozet area with its beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, reservoir lakes, amazing wineries, orchards, horse and cattle farms.”

Artist Bio

Oana Moore, a local photographer specializing in family portraits and equine photography, is equally passionate about shooting landscapes. She grew up in Romania, lived in several major European cities, and spent a year in Scotland before settling in the United States. Oana has called Crozet home for the past eight years and has photographed the area extensively. In her photography, her focus is to create a fine art image with careful consideration to composition and light. You can see more of her work at www.oanamoore.com.

Art on the Trax will feature “Tracy’s Folly” Painting + Printmaking Series by Tracy Knight during the month of March, with a Second Saturday Artist Reception on Saturday, March 10th from 4-6pm.

Born and raised in Charlottesville, with a Canadian heritage, Tracy Knight grew up surrounded by art and creativity. Painting has been in her family for many generations. Working with colors, whether it is canvas or fabric, has always been a passion for Knight. The essence of color is the foundation of her work. Inspired by her love of the ocean, clouds and her mother’s gardens, Knight works primarily with pastel colors. Experimenting with different techniques and mediums to bring colors to life, she expresses nature in abstract form.

“Flight: Watercolors by Phil Radcliffe”

Art on the Trax will “Flight: Watercolors by Phil Radcliffe” during the month of February, with a Second Saturday Artist Reception on Saturday, February 10th from 4-6pm.

The wonder of flight, combining an affection for aircraft and adventure with a love of nature, Phillip Radcliffe paints what captures his imagination. Detailed war planes soar over dramatic clouds contrasting machining marvels with natural beauty. Birds isolated on flat backgrounds showcase these incredible flying animals. Rendered with watercolor and pen and ink the work showcases an attention to composition and a respect for the subject matter.
