Second Saturday Crozet Reception at Crozet Artisan Depot

Crozet Artisan Depot is thrilled to present a show and sale of pottery by Stephen Palmer of Stephen Palmer Ceramics (Charlottesville VA) from March 1-31, 2020. A Meet the Artist reception will be held as part of Second Saturday Crozet on March 14 from 1-3pm in the historic Crozet train depot, 5791 Three Notch’d Road.

For his show at The Depot, Stephen will bring bowls, jars, plates, teapots, and other functional items designed with whimsy to bring joy to the user. Many of his pieces are a combination of wheel throwing and hand building, using an underglaze transfer process to add patterns. They are then fired to cone 6 oxidation.

As I grow older, it’s the things from childhood that bring me joy and influence my work: a toy rocket ship that could take me to the moon, a plastic dinosaur that carries the soldier into battle, and robots, lots of robots. The mechanical aspect of my pieces is influenced by Jules Verne and his many fantastic adventures.” –Stephen Palmer

A Meet the Artist reception will be held as part of Second Saturday Crozet on February 8 from 1-3pm in the historic Crozet train depot, 5791 Three Notch’d Road.

“Creative woodturning is an amazing medium and enjoyable art. Trees are magnificent, often living beyond several human lifetimes. When a tree dies its inherent natural beauty can be an ongoing voice. Humanity, nature and the cosmos inspire my work, sculpting elegant undulating winged forms with an element of Ethos.” –Mike Sorge

Growing up in the San Gabriel Mountains of California, Mike developed a love of nature along with an appreciation of trees, their inherent beauty inspiring him to pursue the art of sculptural woodturning. He has taught classes and demonstrated his craft all over the US and has won numerous awards at competitions and fine art shows.

For his show at The Depot, Mike will bring fantastic sculptural “winged” woodturnings such as Manta Ray Lidded Boxes, Spirit Birds with a captured art glass sphere, Textured Cairn Structures, Winged Pagoda Boxes, as well as contemporary bowls.

Second Saturdays Art Opening @ Art on the Trax with Linda Verdery

“A Mind of Seasons” paintings by Linda Verdery

Art on the Trax is pleased to welcome back local artist, Linda Verdery.  Her show, “A Mind of Seasons,” will be on display at Art on the Trax for the month of October.  About her work: “I try to reach beyond my eye alone to respond to a subject’s mood, atmosphere or even narrative. Sometimes favorite objects or places suggest memories I wish to hold on to. For landscapes, I only paint places I know well. Abstracts come from a perception that is distilled. Stylistically, I let the subject determine the approach. Starting with knives, I apply large swaths of color and then plan the color notes and opening gestures. I draw and redraw, scrape and scrub. My process seems to require missteps and I enjoy the redos, letting the act of painting just take over. In my studio are always three or four paintings in process and more are left to face the wall.”

The artist reception will be held during Second Saturday, on October 12th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.  This reception is part of Crozet’s Second Saturday events. We will be serving up The Art Box’s famous ice cream sundaes topped with fruit from local orchards. This exhibit is free and on view for the month of October.  Art on the Trax is located at Creative Framing and The Art Box, across from the Old Crozet Train Station, at 5784 Three Notch’d Road in Crozet, Virginia.
