Vote on Tuesday

Tuesday brings the primary between Republicans Scott Sayre and Emmett Hanger.

From the Greene County Record:

“This race is one of the pivotal ones,” says Sean T. O’Brien, executive director of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia, speaking about the 24th District Senate race.

Mr. Hanger’s auto-play audio website and recent flood of mailings (a card-stock flyer a day in my mailbox) notwithstanding, he faces a significant challenger in Mr. Sayre.

Emmett Hanger has over $100k on hand.
Scott Sayre has $31k on hand.

The winner of this primary will face Crozetian Arin Sime (L) – a good Q & A is here, and David Cox (D)

More information here; that candidates spend so much money on elections is shameful.

If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.

Starr HIll to expand in Crozet

If you missed this story in yesterday’s DP, take a look – Starr Hill Brewery seeks to expand its Crozet offerings besides slightly cheaper six-packs at the Great Valu.

The brewery, located in a 15,000-square-foot warehouse that was once home to ConAgra Frozen Foods, is seeking a permit from the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to begin allowing tours.

If approved, beer enthusiasts will be able to watch Starr Hill’s brewing process starting in mid-summer or early fall.

“We hope to incorporate ourselves into the wine-tasting traffic that comes through here all the time,” Thompson said.

As part of its upcoming tours, the company is refurbishing a 3,000-square-foot rooftop deck and outdoor walkway where visitors can sip a beer and listen to bands perform.

They join Blue Mountain Brewery in their desire to offer tasting of quality beer.

Starr Hill does have a nifty “Starr Hill sightings” photo blog.

Fireworks 4 Bg 070402

From crozetpark.org:

The annual Crozet Volunteer Fireman’s Fourth of July Parade will be held June 30th at 10:00 a.m. !

A summer fest – party will be held after the parade at Claudius Crozet Park with fireworks by the Crozet Community Association that evening.

I don’t know that the Crozet Community Association is the sponsor, and frankly, I don’t care. So long as the fireworks go on (and I can see from from my back porch)

Crozet Zoning Meeting Roundup

The C-Ville has a good summary of last Thursday’s meeting.

The consultants will now cook up some options for how to achieve this vision of a pedestrian-friendly, business-friendly, traffic-friendly downtown Crozet—whether by imposing a historic overlay district or outright alterations of the zoning or some other method known in the worlds of planners and land-use academics. They will present these options to Crozet on May 24.
