With this little corner Starr, Starr Hill’s brewing operations announce their Crozet presence.
Crozet’s Mural
Yet another reason why I enjoy living in Crozet – the community.
Normally, when a group of teenagers is spotted covering the outside of a building with paint, the words “graffiti” and “vandals” come up.
But when the group is made of Western Albemarle High School students and the building is the Great Valu grocery in Crozet, the word that comes up is preservation.
…
So far, the mural is a reflection of the four seasons in Crozet. The next stage of the project will be a townscape of Crozet from the 1950s and 1960s, including buildings that already have been torn down. West did the research on the history of Crozet, finding old photos to help her with sketches.
I love that we have this kind of community that can come together for something as valuable as this mural.
Starr Hill’s beer rocks.
I think it is so cool that Crozet has become the new home to Starr Hill’s brewing operations. There is a great story by Chirstina Ball in The HooK about their continuing growth and accolades.
But local master brewer Mark Thompson, owner and co-founder of The Starr Hill Brewing Company, is making such a slight impossible. Thompson, who’s from Virginia but studied the art of brewing out west, is still beaming from yet another sweeping victory at the 2005 Great American Beer Festival. This festival, which takes place in Denver– “the Napa Valley of beer”- each fall, is the Olympics of Beer. Going head-to-head at the 2005 competition were no fewer than 1,672 beers from 466 breweries.
Starr Hill garnered a gold medal for its Dark Starr Stout and two silvers for its Mojo Lager and Amber Ale. Last year both the Mojo and the Starr Hill Pale Ale took the gold.
Thompson’s vision for this new location includes a tourist-friendly tasting room as well as a roof deck offering views of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. Tour buses departing from and returning to Starr Hill on West Main Street are also a possibility.
They truly do have great beer. Tour buses in little old Crozet? I certainly would welcome the tasting room though … and maybe even a Starr Hill West?
Grayrock Open House this Weekend.
I rarely do Public open houses because I think that they are more of an opportunity for the agent to gain buyers rather than actually sell the house. Selling open houses to clients as an efficient way to market their home seems disingenuous.
However, this weekend I will be holding 720 Grayrock Drive open from 1 until 4pm, as the timing works out well for me and for my sellers. I am trying to continue my focus on the Crozet market so please stop by; this house is beautiful inside and out.
Posted on Craigslist as well.

Kokopelli’s is moving (sort of)
Crozet’s best (and only) coffee shop, Kokopelli’s sent out this email this afternoon.
Kokopelli’s is reaching new heights! Â That’s right, we are moving upstairs! We have been made many offers to buy Kokopelli’s since the first week we opened. Well, we have one now that we would be fools to pass up. But
Kokopelli’s is not closing. Â We are opening a coffeehouse/cafe upstairs, in the same building, under the name 2nd Floor Joe.We will be offering breakfast and lunch, 7 days a week, from 8 am to 5 pm.
Taking over the dinner and music business will be Charlie Mayer, opening “Uncle Charlie’s Smokehouse,” featuring great BBQ and other treats. Â Both businesses should open around Thanksgiving.
Being the only hotspot in town is a nice deal too, I hope that continues. One day I was in there and saw an iPod running the music during the day and found out that the Scots, owners of Kokopelli’s, are mac people too – good to have around!
US Joiner coming to Crozet
In one of the few reasons to read the print version of the Daily Progress, they had a story yesterday about US Joiner moving from Waynesboro to Crozet. The article made it sound like they are going to bring high quality jobs to the area. This could be a very good move for them and for Crozet. As soon as the article gets put online, I’ll post it.
Update: I still cannot find the article in the DP online, but The HooK had this blurb –
Best get for Crozet: US Joiner, which designs and installs ship interiors, will be moving from Waynesboro to a new facility on Three Notched Road that should be completed in 11 months. The company will employ around 40 people, according to David Hendrick in the DP.
This is what the site looks like now. I contacted them in an attempt to develop a relocation relationship with them, but they already have a Realtor relationship. At least I tried.

Crozet’s water supply is sufficient
From a letter to the editor in the DailyProgress , (that’s a dead link to DP) written by J.W. Brent, ACSA’s Executive Director –
To facilitate orderly development as envisioned in the Comprehensive Plan, many millions of dollars have been invested in establishing the water and sewer infrastructure in Crozet. In addition to developing the utility backbone for future development, the authority is committed to maintaining the reliability of service to existing customers in Crozet. A $1.7 million project is currently under construction to replace existing water lines in the downtown area and residential areas north of downtown. There are no requests for water or sewer service or complaints of inadequate service in Crozet that have not been dealt with by the service authority.
Sometimes it just seems like there ought to be problems created by the growth in Crozet. Another case of facts trumping perception? Now, let’s talk about mass transit!
Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival
The Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival is this weekend.
The Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival is the premier juried arts and crafts show in Central Virginia. Twice a year, on Mothers’ Day weekend in May and on the second weekend in October, 125 of the nation’s finest artists and craftspeople gather to showcase their exhibits in pottery, textiles, leather, glass, wood, metal, photography and art, providing a tantalizing array of beautiful handmade articles for sale. This two day event provides a fine outing for the entire family!
Grab a flyer from the house I am marketing in Parkside Village and don’t forget to stop by my listing in the Highlands!
Huge Yard Sale this weekend
If you happen to be coming to Crozet this Saturday (8 October) morning, stop by Western Ridge for their annual community yard sale. Located right off of route 240, there will be sure to be some “good stuff.”
