via email:

The Western Albemarle Theatre Ensemble is back! After their successful production of “Annie” last year, they are out to top themselves with their 2012 Spring Musical, a Broadway classic, “Guys and Dolls”. Under the direction of Caitlin Pitts, this musical hosts a cast of over 85 students, extensive orchestra, and stage crew. Filled with swaggering gangsters, passionate missionaries, and glamorous show girls with a wide spread message about the power of love and what human beings are willing to give up for the sake of it.

Performances are March 9th and 10th at 8 PM and March 11th for a 2 PM Sunday matinee at the Western Albemarle High School auditorium. Tickets are on sale at the WAHS main office, Over the Moon bookshop and The Mud House and at the WAHS cafeteria. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students. For more information contact Caitlin Pitts at 434-823-8700 ext.63306 or [email protected].

Update:

Many of the cast, crew, and orchestra of the upcoming Western Albemarle High production of “Guys and Dolls” want to do something for our neighbors. Part of the play involves the “Save a Soul Mission”. The kids want to make the mission to collect non-perishable food donations for the Monges. All other food donations will be taken to the Crozet Food closet to feed other local residents. There will receptacles available during the performances to collect the donations.

Community Gardens in Old Trail

via email –

The Old Trail Community Garden is now offering garden plots for rent to residents of the Crozet area for the 2012 growing season. It’s a beautiful location, good sun and soil, friendly fellow gardeners, and lots of exercise! Full plots (10′ x 10′) can be rented for $ 20. This is an organic garden (with a deer fence) and is located in Western Park (east of the soccer field), between Old Trail Drive and Brook View Road in Old Trail, Crozet, VA. Access to the garden is by foot, about a 1/4 mile walk from nearby streets. Parking is available on Brook View Road. A minimum of ten hours of in-kind work maintaining the common areas of the garden is required of all garden plot owners.

Space is limited; first come, first served. Please reply before April 1st. For more information, call 434-205-4087 or [email protected].

Crozet Neighborhood Real Estate Updates – February 2012

I’ll be doing more of these in the future, but this was my first attempt at what I hope to be quarterly (or if I get super-motivated, monthly) real estate updates for some of the Crozet neighborhoods. The quality and setting will improve by next time, too; I found a recording studio right here in Crozet.

(Disclosure: I’m a real estate agent. I live in Crozet.) Continue reading “Crozet Neighborhood Real Estate Updates – February 2012”

CCAC Meeting – This Thursday 16 February 2012

Sooo much on the agenda this month. I won’t be able to attend … I wonder if any WAHS students are interested in going to live tweet it. (I’ve tried for years to get them involved to no avail. I’d think “local government” would be something at least one of the classes might be interested in …)

Crozet Library Going to Bid

via email from Build Crozet Library folks:

Please mark your calendars with some important meeting dates. We may have made a very strong case for building the library to the Supervisors this past fall and winter, but if you read any County government stories in the Daily Progress, it seems some of them may have forgotten a few key points.

Fortunately, there are some good opportunities coming up to remind them.

1.  Supervisor Duane Snow to host Samuel Miller Magisterial District Town Halls
Albemarle County Supervisor Duane E. Snow will host four open houses this month for residents of the county’s Samuel Miller Magisterial District. Snow will open each meeting with some brief comments, and then open the floor to questions on anything pertinent to county business.

Dates and times for the meetings:
Saturday, February 11, 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at the County Office Building Annex, Room B, at 1600 Fifth St.
Saturday, February 18, 10 to 11 am, Yancey Elementary, Esmont
Tuesday, February 21,  7 pm at Meriwether Lewis Elementary
Saturday, February 25, 10 am at the North Garden Fire Station. Continue reading “Crozet Library Going to Bid”
