At 6 p.m. the Planning Commission will have two public hearings with the first being for a rezoning in the Crozet growth area. Windy Knoll is the project name for what is now a proposed 18 unit development off of U.S. 250 near Cory Farms. A previous version had sought 22 units but now the developer has reduced the amount to 18 units. Staff recommends denial.

“Staff believes the concept plan does not adequately provide for pedestrian or bike interconnections that could be made, even if full-vehicular street connections cannot be made,” reads one of the reasons in the staff report.

As with many rezonings in Crozet, there is a lot of opposition to further approvals until there is more infrastructure in place. The packet contains 38 pages of public comment.

“It is sad we have to do this…AGAIN,” reads one email from October 9. “A 4th rezoning attempt connected to my R1 neighborhood.”

One of the emails shows pictures of a person’s yard that would be obstructed if the development proceeded as planned. There is a black bear in some of them.

Take some time to read through the public comments in the 38 pages of public comment.

Imagine, if you will, if we built non-vehicular infrastructure.

Something to say?

  1. Smart man. Growth areas are like that. subject to change. If you cannot handle change buy enough land to insulate yourself. As far as infrastructure, some of the biggest fights have been over what gets torn up to provide it. Look at the proposed and defeated Route 29 bypass as an example…
