Second Saturdays Art Opening @ Art on the Trax with Linda Verdery

“A Mind of Seasons” paintings by Linda Verdery

Art on the Trax is pleased to welcome back local artist, Linda Verdery.  Her show, “A Mind of Seasons,” will be on display at Art on the Trax for the month of October.  About her work: “I try to reach beyond my eye alone to respond to a subject’s mood, atmosphere or even narrative. Sometimes favorite objects or places suggest memories I wish to hold on to. For landscapes, I only paint places I know well. Abstracts come from a perception that is distilled. Stylistically, I let the subject determine the approach. Starting with knives, I apply large swaths of color and then plan the color notes and opening gestures. I draw and redraw, scrape and scrub. My process seems to require missteps and I enjoy the redos, letting the act of painting just take over. In my studio are always three or four paintings in process and more are left to face the wall.”

The artist reception will be held during Second Saturday, on October 12th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.  This reception is part of Crozet’s Second Saturday events. We will be serving up The Art Box’s famous ice cream sundaes topped with fruit from local orchards. This exhibit is free and on view for the month of October.  Art on the Trax is located at Creative Framing and The Art Box, across from the Old Crozet Train Station, at 5784 Three Notch’d Road in Crozet, Virginia.

Crozet Spirit Walk

This fall marks the 9th Annual Crozet Spirit Walk, a historical play acted out through the streets of Crozet and sponsored by Field School.  An event for the whole family, this year’s walks depicts events from the early twentieth Century through WW2, and will feature stories about Frank Peregoy, the fruit industry, Shenandoah National Park, and the Crozet Library.

The public is warmly invited to the fun, family-friendly annual event, which will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.  on Saturday, October 28th, at Field School. Field School is located at 1408 Crozet Avenue.  Tickets are $10 and are available at the door. Kids 15 and under get in free.

Add Your Own Event to the Crozet Calendar

Eventually I’ll add a widget or something to the side of the blog making finding this feature easier but in the meantime … I’ve opened up the calendar feature on the site to allow anyone to add their own events.

Add your own event to the Crozet Calendar here.

For PTO events, vineyards, Old Trail community events, music at Fardowners or Southern Way Cafe – or Starr Hill’s  tasting room – or church events or whatever. I’d love this calendar to become more of a hub for the Crozet community than it already is.

Adding an event is easy, and takes less than two minutes.

A couple tips for adding events to the Crozet calendar:

– times are in 24 hour time. (1800 = 6pm)

– Please upload a photo if you have one.

– if I’m missing a category, please let me know

– Add the date to the title! Example – Bike to School Day – 7 May 2014 – I’m hoping we can make the calendar live long enough where we have duplicate events over the years.

– Please please please don’t abuse this. Thank you.
