Should we trick or trick on Saturday or Sunday in Crozet?

PPTT Petrifying Scooter Pig

I was asked this question this morning while walking my daughter to Crozet Elementary – is there a day this year in Crozet that is considered “the day” for Trick or Treating?

It’s a question that is being asked around the country, in many localities.

So, I pose the question – Should we trick or trick on Saturday or Sunday in Crozet?

Further, if you don’t live in in a neighborhood that is great for trick or treating, where do you go? (and please, don’t do car-trick-or-treating! If you can’t walk from house to house … )

Sprint Issues in Crozet?

From a reader:

My wife and I all of a sudden began having trouble with our Sprint service in Crozet, beginning around Wednesday of last week.  Do you know of anyone else having these issues?  We are in Laurel Hills across from Crozet Elementary.

Is this an isolated instance?

On a related note, @ancym was asking on Twitter for cell phone coverage advice, as in – who is the best in Crozet? In my experience, the answer is “Verizon”.

– Bobby Reed Jazz Combo at the Batesville Store (from the Batesville Store email)

… get thee to the Wine Cellar this Saturday, October 23, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m., for an evening of modern jazz presented by the Bobby Read Quartet.

The quartet is led by the prolific sax and keyboard artist Bobby Read.  A denizen of the store who lives in one of Batesville’s western suburbs, Bobby is probably best known as Bruce Hornsby’s longtime go-to sax player, contributing to most of Hornsby’s studio albums and touring with him since the early 90’s. But he is also widely renowned for his own jazz compositions and CDs, particularly the innovative Monkfish and my personal favorite, the critically acclaimed Simbia.

Bobby will be joined by three heavy hitters from the region’s jazz scene. When he is not teaching at VCU, the acoustic guitarist Adam Larrabee plays bluegrass, rock, and jazz with equal skill. Pete Spaar, a faculty member in UVA’s Music Department, has played with John D’earth and the Free Bridge Quintet. The widely acclaimed jazz drummer Brian Caputo, a veteran of Sons of Bill, has played a major role in all of Bobby’s jazz recordings. When these dudes get together with Bobby, they cook up some serious jazz.

Which inevitably leads to today’s second philosophical question:  While the jazz is cooking in the Wine Cellar, what’s cooking in the store’s kitchen?
And the answer is a simple one:  Some seriously jazzy food.

Thoughts on Crozet, the CCAC and Business in Crozet

From a reader:

Several Days ago you inquired what type of business I thought should be in Crozet. I can share with you that over the last 3 years there have been serious inquiries from such businesses as a small surgical instrument manufacturer (10-12 employees with average salary of $40,000+, a dentist office, a doctors office, a bakery, lawyers office and an architectural firm. All with 10-12 employees with hours of operation 8 – 5 most with Monday – Friday schedules. They have located in other areas at this time.

Crozet Master Plan is Approved – Three “Centers” of Crozet

Charlottesville Tomorrow has the story. Please take the time to read this; it is one of the most important aspects of how Crozet is going to grow.

The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved an update of the Crozet Master Plan. The amendments to the twenty-year plan lower the ultimate population potential and seek to focus the community’s growth into three distinct areas.
“The master plan continues to emphasize redevelopment of downtown,” said David Benish, Albemarle’s chief of planning at a public hearing last Wednesday. “Changes to the plan put greater emphasis on the three centers that have emerged, which is the Clover Lawn area, the Old Trail area and downtown.”

Coming Thursday – Does the CCAC wield too much influence?
