Crozet Trails Crew – Party at Mint Springs 7-18-2021

via email. This will be a lot of fun, with one of the best things about Crozet.

The Crozet Trails Crew invites the community to Mint Springs Park on Sunday at 4:00 to celebrate and dedicate the new amphitheater, built by the crew and paid for by Paul McCartney!

We’ll have an interesting story about the stage, pizza and lemonade, trail maps and advice, and music by the Crozet Jam Band led by Jim Pyles. Plus it’s your chance to find out more about the Crozet Greenway system, what we’re planning, and how you can help.

And meet Bigfoot!

All the details on their web site at CrozetTrailsCrew.org

100+ Townhomes Coming near Green Olive Tree

I put Green Olive Tree in the title, as that’s an area that most people can reference. It’s close, though. I could have said, “near the new car wash,” or “the veterinarian” but there are two veterinarians on 240, with those being different parts of 240.

And I can’t find anything in the news or on the County’s site about the results of the meeting. * Update below

Also, submit comments at this link until I think 17 August (watch the video to confirm).

That said, from the public notice of last week’s meeting (bolding mine)

Dear Neighbor,

We, Meridian Planning Group, invite you to share comments and ask questions regarding our request to rezone the parcels described below from Rural Area (RA) to Neighborhood Model (NMD). Interested in the Crozet Cycling Club?

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. ~ Ernest Hemingway

You may have seen us on the road, and hopefully you saw the great story in last month’s Crozet Gazette.

If you’re interested in riding with the Crozet Cycling Club (we have 3 segments of the club now!), come out to Pro Re Nata this Friday, 24 June between 7 and 9. (the facebook event is here) We’re calling this a non-spandex social.  Already ride? Cool. Thinking about starting to ride? Come on down.

6am. Good fun. #crozetcycling #crozet

If you’re out on local scenic roads at the crack of day, you’re likely to see a posse of Crozet cyclists trailing slipstreams, winding like wind down the roads.

“This area’s hard to beat. It’s gorgeous. We stop to take pictures,” said Duncan. “We take time to appreciate where we are. Morning commuters know us because of our headlight power. We stick together as a group. We’re extremely conscientious about safety and sharing the road. We live here and we don’t want to piss off our neighbors.

At the moment, we have 3 groups of riders –

  • Wednesday morning at 6am – and usually every other morning as well)
  • The 9:30 Club  – who meet Fridays at 7:15 at Mudhouse during the summer
  • The Easy Riders – meet at Crozet Mudhouse on Mondays and Thursdays. ** see the end of this post for more information on the Easy Riders

* one request – if you do request to be a member of one of the google groups, please also email me and let me know a little about who you are and how long you’ve been riding; the google groups are private groups, and we like to know with whom we’re communicating (our email threads tend to be comical from time to time, too).

I’m always happy to answer questions, or talk about the different groups, and which one may be the best fit for you. Call/email/text me anytime and 434-242-7140.

We are now discussing holding clinics for those of us – beginners and not-so-beginners – to learn to be better skilled and safer riders. I truly love and am humbled by the growth and evolution of this group.

If you’re interested in riding with the Crozet Cycling Club, come out to Pro Re Nata this Friday, 24 June between 7 and 9. (the facebook event is here) We’re calling this a non-spandex social.

There Are Bears in Crozet

There are bears in Crozet … they are part of the charm of living here (we are at the base of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive/Shenandoah National Park, after all)

… and seemingly more bears are making their presence known now that it’s Bear Awareness Week (who knew?)

Bears in Crozet - Thanks to Wildlife Center of Virginia for the image

– Thanks, Wildlife Center of Virginia.

And thanks Matthew for sharing about the one last night.

– For fun, follow the Crozet Bear.

– More bears seen around Crozet this year because of the Shenandoah National Park fire?

What Are Crozet’s Competitive Advantages?

This morning I noted on the RealCrozetVA Facebook:

Crozet needs employers so that not everybody needs to go to Charlottesville in the mornings.

Another day, another wreck on 64…

“Accident: EB on I-64 at MM115 in Albemarle Co. 1 travel lane closed. Delay 1 mi.8:24AM”

And this comment resonated with me:
Besides, wine, beer, cider, and new houses with amazing vistas, what are Crozet’s competitive advantages?

My quick list:

– Crozet is a community that cares
– Crozet have pretty good schools
– We are in a great location close to Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, parks, Charlottesville.
– We have (mostly) involved community members
– There is good enough walk and bikeability for those who choose to do so.
– We have a well-educated population (that is growing)
– Crozet has clean air.

What about you?
