Walk To School Day This Friday at Crozet Elementary

Update: Walk to School Day is “canceled due to ice and snow on the sidewalks”

This Friday, 19 February is Crozet Elementary’s Monthly Walk to School Day. We probably won’t be walking as we would be walking in the middle of the road for most of the way due to snow.

I asked on Twitter if Brownsville does “Walk to School” days – (and really meant Western and Henley as well) and got an interesting response. Is it true that kids are discouraged/disallowed from walking to school on their own?

New Chiropractic Firm in Clover Lawn Shops

Editor’s note: I’m happy to publish press releases for local business – I think it’s good to keep the community aware and involved, and I’m always looking for story ideas! Also, it remains a bit odd to me that the Clover Lawn Shoppes have a Charlottesville address, despite clearly being in Crozet. Eventually I’ll get around to writing about all the new businesses in the Clover Lawn Shops (and I’ll welcome any submissions from you!)

NEW CROZET OFFICE CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING JANUARY 9TH

Drs. Brice and Megan Jackson announce the ribbon cutting ceremony of Connections Chiropractic Center in Crozet! Enjoy door prizes and healthy snacks!
Connections Chiropractic Center celebrates its Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting ceremony on January 9th at 3PM.

The office is conveniently located on Hwy 250 in Crozet in the Shoppes at Cloverlawn. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff fit right in with the beauty of the surrounding Blue Ridge.

The Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce will assist with the ribbon cutting event. When you arrive you will be treated to a variety of healthy snacks, kid activities and several door prizes.

If you haven’t met the Jacksons yet, you’ll soon be impressed with their personable and inviting personalities. But don’t let their down-to-earth natures fool you; they have achieved a status in the chiropractic profession that less than half of all chiropractors ever achieve. In May, Dr. Brice Jackson will sit an international board to be recognized as a Diplomate in Chiropractic Neurology.

The title Chiropractic Neurologist may not mean much to you, but it means the world to the parents of the children they are able to help. Connections offers a specialized Fitness for the Developing Brain program to serve children with developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, AD/HD, OCD, Tourette’s, dyslexia, and bipolar disorder.

For adults, chiropractic neurology is especially effective for the treatment of movement disorders, stroke rehabilitation, chronic pain, migraines, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

But the overall goal of all of Connections’ programs is to allow the body to heal sickness on its own and to keep it healthy for a lifetime. So partnering with each patient to implement lifelong wellness strategies is also a top priority.

If a non-drug, functional approach to lifelong health and well-being is something you would like in your family’s life, then visit Connections during their Grand Opening celebration. Come and enjoy some food, fun, chair massage, door prizes and kid activities from 3pm – 6pm Friday, January 9th. Located at 375 Four Leaf Lane #202, Charlottesville, VA 22958. Phone # 434-823-2199.

Albemarle County to dedicate trail system at Mint Springs Park in Crozet

In an attempt to better the community and change this perception:

Mint Springs Park is a forgotten county park, Trails are not too long, but has tons of vertical to wear your legs out – much more than Walnut Creek/O Hill! Trails are unfortunately not always well maintained – more riders needed! The trails all essentially start at the lakes and go up to the top of the mountain – there are 4-5 different routes up, all for intermediate riders, a few for advanced only. GREAT terrain, just needs better maintanance.

From an Albemarle County release:

Over five miles of improved trails now available to the public.

Albemarle County will dedicate an improved and expanded trail system at Mint Springs Park at a ceremony open to the public on Saturday, October 20, at 10:30 am at the park in Crozet.  The trail system, which encompasses over five miles of various types of terrain throughout the park, has been improved and expanded thanks in large part to the hard work of a variety of volunteers including high school and middle school groups, UVA interns, a Crozet Trails crew, and the Charlottesville Albemarle Mountain Biking Club, among others.

New features of the trail system include a large color kiosk that displays all the trails, improved trail marking signs that make it easier to traverse the trails, and full color maps that are available online or in person at the park.

The ceremony will feature Sally Thomas of the County Board of Supervisors; David Wayland, a lifetime Crozet resident whose earliest memories include stories about the park property; and representatives from the County Parks and Recreation Department who will lead guided tours of the trails after the formal ceremony is finished.

“We are very pleased to be presenting this enhanced trail system to the public as a wonderful amenity in the western Albemarle County community,” said Parks and Recreation Director Pat Mullaney.  “The Mint Springs trails provide citizens with the type of recreational option they ask for most frequently, and they fit very well with our commitment to both environmental stewardship and an active, healthy lifestyle.”

This is going to be a busy weekend in Western Albemarle … Crozet Music Festival, Batesville Festival, Mint Springs dedication …

July’s Crozet Gazette is out

The Gazette seems to get better every month.

Highlights of this month’s issue:

– Extensive coverage of the Downtown Zoning Plan
– Western Albemarle and Augusta Counties: An Economic Relationship
– A Cougar in Crozet
– Summary of the fireworks success
– A call to action for Crozetians to be involved in the Zoning Plan

About 75 people showed up for the first meeting … about 40 showed up for the second session … and then 20 for the third

If you don’t participate in the governmental planning process, you abdicate your responsibility to the system and negate your credibility to complain when things turn out differently than you would have liked.
