Via press release: REDISTRICTING OF MAGISTERIAL DISTRICTS AND VOTER PRECINCTS The County of Albemarle will hold a public meeting on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 241 of the County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, at which County staff will present information and receive public comments regarding the upcoming redistricting process for the County’s magisterial districts and voter precincts. … The County’s six magisterial districts from which the members of the Board of Supervisors and the School Board are elected are the “local governing body districts” referenced in the Constitution and must be addressed in the redistricting. The topics to be discussed at this meeting will include: – The schedule for the redistricting process; – Federal and State requirements for establishing magisterial district and voter precinct boundaries; and – Proposed Board of Supervisors’ guidelines to be used in drawing magisterial district and voter precinct boundaries. … Comments received at the meeting will be recorded and considered by County staff in preparing final guidelines for the Board of Supervisors to consider and in developing one or more redistricting plans to be presented to the Board after the County has received and evaluated data from the 2010 Census.
