Restore N Station – The Final Chapter?

In Crozet by Jim

Restore N Station *Does* Need a Special Use Permit More With that preface, I received the following from Mary Rice: The proposed mega gas station/convenience store truck stop – Restore N Station  – is coming up for THE big determining vote at the Board of Supervisors on

… It is once again critical that we get a large group of people at this meeting and that we have people contacting the Board prior to the vote to tell them what you think about the project as this is the vote that will determine whether or not the project gets built.

…Both the Chief of Zoning and the Planning Commission have now ruled that they believe it is likely that the project will use more than its allotment of 1,624 gallons of water per day from its well, and therefore, requires a Special Use Permit.  Despite requests, there has been no traffic study, no independent study by the County to investigate the effect this project will have on adjacent neighbor’s wells, and no County analysis of the usage comparables submitted by the applicant, although there is compelling evidence to suggest that those comparables are not at all correct,  (see attached information from Goeke).

Crozet Music Festival This Weekend – 1-3 October

In Crozet by Jim1 Comment

The Crozet Music Festival is this weekend . Spend ten minutes with learning more about the CMF with Bill Rossberg, founder and operator and John Updike, who has been heavily involved since day one.

They discuss the event, the bands, the vineyards and breweries, the activities for kids, the history and the vision of the Festival. I, for one, am grateful for such a tremendous event celebrating local and regional music.

More on the Crozet Playground – This Time with Invoices! – Part 3

In Community, Politics, Schools by Jim3 Comments

As I was reviewing the information, I wanted to share the following that may be useful in your review: •         The Brownsville set was priced in 2008 and ordered in 2009 while the Crozet set was priced and installed this year. There has been a significant increase (17% according to the vendor) in the cost of play ground equipment since that time due to the increased prices of plastic and metal. •         We did obtain very favorable pricing for the Crozet play set by partnering with Fairfax County Public Schools (noted as FCPS on the attachment), the largest school division in the Commonwealth. The Crozet set was installed using FCPS pricing, and the vendor used was the lowest bidder. •         The Brownsville site did not require the demolition and removal of an existing set, which accounted for $8,000 of the cost of the Crozet set. … Since there is room to expand the current Crozet Elementary play set, we would welcome an opportunity to work with a Committee, if external funding sources can be obtained, to add additional components to the play area.   After you have had an opportunity to review the attached information, please let me know if you have additional questions, or if you would like to begin the process of forming a Committee to explore options for adding other play components to the existing play set at Crozet Elementary School.
