More on the Crozet Library

In Crozet, Library by Jim15 Comments

From the CrozetEagle listserv: Many of you may not know that the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has spoken about closing Scottsville Library and our own Crozet Library. … As you know, once they do close this library, it is very likely we will not get another one – new or old back into this area. … Also there is a website I have created for people to post on and I am sending these to Board of Supervisors: www.savecrozetlibrary.webs.com .

… Not only is Crozet not getting the mammoth new library it was expecting, a possible ten percent budget cut might mean closure of library it already enjoys, and Scottsville could lose its library with just a five percent cut.

Home Contracts up in Crozet

In Crozet by Jim4 Comments

Nearly twice as many homes have gone under contract in Crozet (defined as Crozet and Brownsville Elementary) in the first 38 days of the year compared to the first 38 days of 2009. It’s not a rebound or a recovery, but it’s definitely a good sign. Sure, we’re talking small numbers: 9 homes – attached and single family – went under contract between 1 January and 8 February 2009 18 homes – attached and single family – went under contract between 1 January and 8 February 2009 But you have to start somewhere.

Snowpocalypse Part Deux

In Crozet by JimLeave a Comment

As the snow began to fall Friday morning and the roads had yet to become impassable, dozens of Crozet residents rushed out to Crozet Hardware after hearing—primarily over Twitter—that the shop had received a last-minute truckload of snow shovels. By 10 a.m., more than 80 percent of the 230 shovels had been bought up. A few doors down, the Crozet Mudhouse was doing brisk business as residents took advantage of the final few hours they could travel freely before hunkering down inside their homes.

Reader Question – What Cell Phone and Internet Provider?

In Crozet by Jim6 Comments

I would like to know what Internet provider and also what cell phone service folks in the Emerald Ridge/Saddle Hollow area use, especially those with smart phones.

This is a timely email, as this comment was just posted on a post from January of last year :

So I guess I can deduce from what everyone has written above is that go with Direct TV?

…I use Verizon (they have the best coverage in the Crozet/Charlottesville/Central Virginia area) and Comcast (who are mostly reliable but insanely, unnecessarily and unfortunately expensive).

Yancey Business Park

In Crozet by Jim1 Comment

Charlottesville Tomorrow has a good rundown of Thursday’s meeting at the Field School about Yancey Industrial Park : A spirited crowd of Crozet residents was on hand at a public forum Thursday to challenge the notion that western Albemarle is a prime location for expanded industrial development. The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has asked for consideration of a new light industrial business park in the Crozet Master Plan’s first five-year update. … Yancey said many potential business owners have told him his family’s land would be an ideal location for them to locate because of its close access to I-64. – What will be the cost to the County? – What infrastructure will have to be improved? Who will pay for it? – What assurances do the citizens have that this won’t be re-zoned in five years to commercial. – How will this benefit the community? – How will this harm the community?
