The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors will discuss the future of public libraries during their meeting on Wednesday . As an aside, I wonder if anyone from the Albemarle area is going to the Computers in Libraries conference, and specifically the Adding Value to Communities session.

I’m no engineer, but I’d wager that they would finish it in a month if they were properly incentivized.

… At its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors is expected to endorse a resolution supporting the temporary closure of Jarmans Gap Road (Route 691). The Virginia Department of Transportation has recommended a complete closure of Jarmans Gap Rd. to traffic for approximately 60 days during the construction project to allow for the installation of a precast box culvert at Powell’s Creek. … VDOT advises that during the school year, Jarmans Gap Rd. will be reduced to one lane of traffic, as necessary.

… just wish you would define just where is “RealCrozet”:) Don’t you go including Greenwood, Freetown, Brownsville, or White Hall when you try to keep us up to date of the areas activities. 🙂 From Downtown Crozet to Old Trail to 250 West, to Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton and some points west, to Freetown to Batesville Store, to Beaver Creek, to the White Hall Store, to Chiles Orchard. And anywhere else that piques my interest or touches Crozet.

From the Field School’s press release: We are are grateful to Oliver Kuttner for participating in our speakers series Friday night.   Kuttner drove to Field School straight from the office in Lynchburg where he and his Edison2 team have been building a new generation automobile.   In the Fall, the team won the coveted Progressive Insurance Automotive XPrize along with a check for $5 million.

Fundraiser Dance for WARS and CVFD

The band, Salute to Swing, a 17 piece big band from Albemarle, will provide great dancing and listening music in a fundraiser dance Saturday, February 5, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the Field School (Old Crozet School )  All ages are welcome. … A free swing dance lesson with Mike Herring and Melissa Pancurak of Swing Cville  will begin at 7 pm followed by three hours of music from 8-11 pm. … Leo Mallek, bandleader, can be reached at [email protected] Many civic organizations in Crozet are helping organize the event and 100% of admission dollars will go to the fire ( CVFD) and rescue (WARS) agencies.     … If anyone is willing to help by bringing  “light refreshments”, such as homemade or purchased desserts or snacks, help with taking tickets or clean-up, please contact me, Tim Tolson at either [email protected] or 434-882-5265.

From the Washington Times : The Thomas Jefferson Foundation says it’s working with Starr Hill Brewery in Crozet to offer Monticello Reserve Ale, inspired by what was produced and consumed regularly at Monticello. Brewing beer was among the plantation’s important activities, and the beer was one of the “table liquors” served with meals. Monticello Reserve Ale is made from a combination of lightly hopped wheat and corn.

Albemarle County Police May have Caught the Car Break-in Thieves

The rash of car break-in reports has been coming in since November, says Albemarle police Sergeant Darrell Byers. Most recently, seven vehicles in Mill Creek were reported hit January 16, over 20 off East Rio on January 17, and more than 20 reported on January 20 in the Georgetown Green and Pantops areas. … Police were already looking for the alleged perps January 23 when the call came in from Old Trail in Crozet. … The first clue that the occupants may have been involved in the thefts was the number of GPS devices spotted inside the car.

Funding will help Henley Middle School students to travel to New York for an April Model United Nations Conference .
